KOIKATE
KOIKATE was founded in Berlin in 2012 by the artists Lea Walloschke and Sebastian Hajman. As an experimental collective, KOIKATE is known for its boundary-pushing, interdisciplinary works that merge media art, immersive installations, and performance. Their practice spans large-scale spatial interventions, ephemeral environments, and hybrid performance formats that challenge conventional artistic categories.
KOIKATE’s projects often unfold as collaborative, site-responsive experiences that dissolve the separation between artist and audience. Their work navigates the intersections of perception, emotion, and societal discourse, constructing multi-sensory spaces that engage visitors on both a visceral and conceptual level. Image, sound, and spatial dramaturgy coalesce to create transformative environments where spectators become active participants.
A defining characteristic of KOIKATE’s artistic language is its subversive intensity: once inside their world, detachment becomes nearly impossible. What at first appears as a playful, carnival-like spectacle unravels into a raw, unfiltered reflection of contemporary reality. Familiar visual codes and sonic textures are deconstructed, heightening audience awareness and triggering profound introspection.
Through their ephemeral, media-driven interventions, KOIKATE has established itself as a critical force in contemporary art, consistently pushing the limits of cultural perception and expanding the possibilities of collective experience.
Sebastian Hajman studied Applied Theater Studies at the University of Giessen and co-founded the renowned performance collective Monstertruck.
Lea Walloschke studied Fine Arts and Stage Design at the Berlin University of the Arts and later deepened her artistic approach with studies in composition at the British Irish Institute for Modern Music.
